Return of the Art Blagh.

Right, so, finals are over and done with and I have returned to my homeland of Ohio. It's time to art in earnest! Thus, I am resuming this art blog. I must continue to post once a day. :)

Today, I started to doodle a fail:

Which was my attempt to improve upon a previous doodle fail:

I need to improve my stylized human... style. Siri Tachi, I will draw you yet! *shakes fist*

Also today, I sketched a front/back reference sheet for a friend, which I need to finish and color:

Today I did stuff for academic classes, went to classes, and then later didn't feel like doing school stuff so worked on a fursuit head. I'm too tired to dig up my camera though, so just have a page of crappy doodles:

Yeh, I miss my lizard boy.

Ray tracing.

Apparently a skylight will wind up making my animation taking over 40 hours to render (what with all the separate meshes and it being about a minute long). So, screw that, I found something else fairly pretty that takes significantly less time:

Ray tracing! Also, I set a spotlight up as the sun and then threw some omni lights in with shadows off to soften the scene. Dunno, does anyone else have any lighting ideas?

Had my critique for this in class today. I'm going to tweak the walk cycle, have more of a reaction to stepping in the poo and of course re-render it all out with pretty lighting. They said not to worry about texturing... I still want to because I want to learn how, but for now I've thrown some more basic materials on certain polygons for the nose, hair, etc.

3D final, take 1.

This is a preliminary version of my 3D (and Sound) final for this week's critique. Then we have one more week to polish it. For next week I plan to unwrap and texture the characters, tweak some of the timing and throw in a skylight (then leave my computer to render for a day, because that'll quadruple my render time, wheeee). But yeah. Everything by me. Models and animation done in 3D Studio Max, sound and music done in Garage Band, Reason and Protools.

Also, oh god the compression, it burns. o_O

Stuff is still occurring.

Still animating, setting up cameras, etc. Should be done with it all by tomorrow for sure. Have to be, because I need time for the sound work.

Quick eye textures I painted - Natalie and the puppy. Will be the only thing truly textured for the first critique. Might texture the rest of both characters for the final critique the week after - we'll see?

Quick cruddy doodle. Arcanine. Buh.

I might update this blog less over the next couple weeks since I'll be too busy doing things and making things to post about them. Sup finals.

Stuff is occurring.

Still working of course. Threw together a simple temporary bg set, merged the characters in, threw flat materials on everything for now. Started animating. Yep. Sleep now.

I did do things yesterday, I just was tired and grumpy and forgot to update this blagh. I doodled in Chivalry and did some 3D tweaking aaand did some sound editing.

Have a fluffy kitty thing:

Bigger.Collapse )

Today I linked up my models and then made some quick motion tests to see if I placed the pivot points correctly and if I need to change the way some of the pieces overlap. I did indeed find some things I want to fix, so, huzzah for a good use of some time.

I'm getting faster. Would be blocked out completely if people and things didn't keep distracting me tonight. I was more productive in-between classes at Hopkins today than I was at home tonight, guh.

Needs < two hours additional work though. I'll work on the paw more, pull out the tail supa fast and then go back into the face a bit. Then I'll declare it good and tackle setting up the environment, setting up rigs for both characters and will move on to things like the poo and the alternate facial expressions for Natalie. Yeah, poo. If I could take care of all of that by Thursday I would be made of awesome. Also, I gotta score a video for Sound and do some research for my Chivalry paper before then - and take care of a couple minor things for the beta release of our game. Bollocks. Tomorrow better be productiveeee. D:

I am already lusting after the glory that is Friday. Is it Friday yet?

Weekend.

Yesterday I began modeling the puppy. So far I have it's head blocked out (shown here with my buddy turbosmooth applied, heh):

Today I finished blocking out the above head by doing the underside of the ears and connecting them to the rest of the head - which was tricky and took some creative problem solving, but everything wound up being quads! I'm pleased.

I also did some game stuff, including working on a title screen (for which I made use of the Capek model I'd made for the dance, rendering him out and then painting in some additional detail in Photoshop) and designing some interface bits. Gotta wait until we actually agree on a title itself before I stick it in though.
